Equip a Fleet and Save Money

Marinediesel are seldom the cheapest engines in our class in the market. Indeed, we usually are priced somewhere in the middle: Not the cheapest, and not the most expensive, either. We do, however, feel that we give our customers much more value for their money, due to our technical advantages:

  1. Highest power to weight ratio: More power for the same money.
  2. Longest life cycle: Our competition cannot even come close.
  3. Lowest noise and vibration: The Laws of Physics mean that we will be quieter, with less vibration than any of our inline six cylinder competition.
  4. Remote diagnostic capability: Our technicians can diagnose your engine, anywhere in the world from our factory in Sweden.
  5. Customized performance: Go ahead. Ask Yanmar to customize an engine and get back to us on that.

These advantages make a solid case for Marinediesel well above any minor price differentials. However, we ask you to take a look at the web sites of any diesel engine manufacturers.

How many list prices online?

None.

There are very good reasons for this.

  1. There is nearly always a distributor involved for all but the most customized engine (like racing engines, which are manufactured annually in the dozens, rather than thousands or tens of thousands). Distributor involvement is an absolute necessity from a service perspective and for spare parts.
  2. VERY few people simply purchase a bobtail engine. Most engines require a certain amount of ancillary equipment in order to  be installed. Simply comparing bobtail prices is inaccurate and pretty much useless.
  3. Volume. It costs less to supply 100 engines than two engines.

This last point is pretty important. When you equip a fleet of vehicles with a specific engine, it is normally much cheaper than simply equipping one or two vessels. It costs Marinediesel, as the manufacturer, less to make the engines, and we pass those savings on to our customer. This is why bulk purchases are usually much cheaper on a quantity basis. It really is not much different than when one buys food at the supermarket. Big, family sizes, of products are usually cheaper than individual portion sizes.

On your next project, contact your local Marinediesel distributor for a quote. Our distributors often have a great deal of price flexibility and we will work with them to provide you the highest performance possible at the lowest price possible.

Want to be a MarineDiesel Distributor or Dealer? This is what we require.

MarineDiesel has become a company with true global reach. Our sales and distribution network reaches to over 30 countries and regions around the world. We have sold engines in far more locations.

Here at MarineDiesel, we receive around a dozen dealer and distributor inquiries every month. In the last couple of years, we have drastically tightened the requirements to become a distributor for our engines.

Why?

Quite simply, engines require a level of after sale service that most trading houses are unable or unwilling to provide. Unlike with other marine equipment, like most electronics, with engines, spare parts in a country are essential. Trained technical staff are essential. You cannot merely keep an engine in inventory and be “good to go”. Distributorship requires an investment, not only in money, but in time, along with the capability and willingness to adequately develop a local market.

So, what does it take to become a MarineDiesel distributor? Distributors are partners, in every respect. Five primary criteria:

  1. A commitment to factory training. In Europe. On an ongoing basis.
  2. Successful completion of training. Distributors must service everything that they sell.
  3. A commitment to maintain adequate levels of spare parts in country, in inventory, based on sales.
  4. A commitment to minimum annual sales.
  5. Adequate service facilities, infrastructure, and personnel to rebuild engines, test engines, commission engines, and service engines.

All MarineDiesel distributors must be approved based on the above points. If a company wants to sell our engines, but lacks the service facilities, people, or financial capability to adequately become a distributor, we will usually make them a dealer, under an existing distributor’s contract.

There are regions without existing distributors. If you are interested in working with MarineDiesel, please check our Global Dealer Map and Contact us with your inquiry.

Reducing Downtime Costs

One of the benefits of MarineDiesel’s VGT Series of marine engines is the much longer life cycle of our engines over competing brands. Longer life cycle is directly related to the costs of vessel downtime; something that is often very difficult to accurately calculate, particularly with regard to military or government vessels.

How much does it really cost you when your vessel cannot operate?

This is an interesting question, and one where the answer may not be so simple to answer, given the intangible variables that are present. On a commercial vessel, cost of downtime is relatively simple: If the vessel is not operating, or cannot operate, revenue is lost. It is, effectively, a sunk cost. On a military vessel, can inability to complete a mission be strictly placed into solely financial terms? Not really, yet there are real costs associated with not being able to operate.

The one constant is that cost from downtime occur, and it is beneficial to minimize the amount of vessel downtime.

MarineDiesel’s design and quality practices alone help minimize downtime, but there are other things that you can do to keep downtime to an absolute minimum:

  • Always adhere to the maintenance schedule in your manual.
  • Always maintain our recommended onboard spare parts inventory near the vessel location. If the vessel is located in remote regions, contact your MarineDiesel distributor for additional recommended spare parts.
  • Always use OEM spare parts.
  • Pay attention to your engine’s rating and the operating conditions and vessel use. Add additional maintenance intervals if used in harsh conditions or in extreme amounts.
  • Regularly inspect the engines and vessel as a whole, looking for abnormalities or unusual signs of wear.
  • Take advantage of drydock time to repair other systems at the same time.
  • Ensure that vessel crews are either factory trained or trained by MarineDiesel distributors.
